A New Chapter in Ghent: Opening Our European R&D Office

In August 2026, The BioChain opened a second base at Tech Lane Science Park in Ghent, Belgium — our European R&D presence alongside our Oxford headquarters. It’s a deliberate choice of location, not just an address: Ghent sits at the centre of one of Europe’s most active life-sciences and deep-tech ecosystems, and we wanted to be inside it, not adjacent to it.

A genuinely vibrant ecosystem

Flanders has spent years building a research and innovation environment that punches well above its size — a dense cluster of hospitals, biotech companies and research teams working on real medical and scientific problems, backed by an ecosystem of agencies and networks designed to connect them rather than leave them to find each other by chance. For an infrastructure company like ours, building trust and data integrity tools for exactly these kinds of organisations, that density matters. The people who understand the problem best are close by.

Backed by VLAIO

Our Ghent operation is supported by VLAIO, Flanders’ innovation and entrepreneurship agency. That backing has been more than funding on paper — it reflects the kind of practical, hands-on support that makes setting up in a new region genuinely tractable, and it’s the same spirit of institutional support we’ve had from Innovate UK on our Oxford side. Two agencies, two countries, one consistent signal: this is infrastructure worth investing in early.

Connecting into the region

Since arriving in Ghent, we’ve joined Leuven MindGate, the collaboration platform connecting more than 444 organisations across the Leuven Innovation Region — deepening our ties to exactly the community of researchers, hospitals and specialists our work is built for.

Opening in Ghent isn’t a satellite office for its own sake. It’s how we intend to keep building The BioChain close to the people and institutions who understand the problem best — and we’re grateful to VLAIO, Leuven MindGate and the wider Flanders ecosystem for making that possible.
